About tHE CENTER
Simply put, stress is a part of college life. Most students experience it at one time or another during their college years because of academic, relationship, family or career pressures. Some students cope well with stress, but others may need some help.
The Center for Personal Development is available to help Saint Peter's students address problems and to support their personal, professional and educational growth. The Center is staffed by counselors who are trained to deal with a variety of issues, from depression, anxiety, isolation, loneliness and family difficulties, to substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault and other concerns.
We offer students personal attention, through individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation (with family, faculty, and peers) in a supportive environment where confidentiality is assured. We also provide workshops, seminars, career interest testing, a self-help library and, if needed, appropriate referral to others resources on and off campus.
The Center takes an active role concerning issues that affect the student population by sponsoring numerous seminars, Health and Wellness fairs, campus events and activities. Programs are offered on a regular basis on topics such as: substance abuse awareness, stress management, time management, assertiveness training, dealing with relationships and healthy lifestyles.
Peer Educators, trained by the Center, are students interested in volunteering to help others and encourage healthy decision-making by their peers. Peer Educators participate in promoting wellness, addressing consequences of drug/alcohol use, providing HIV/AIDS education, and helping students make healthy lifestyle choices.
