BSN for High School Graduates
Prof. Lisa Garsman- BSN Program Director
The Nursing Program at Saint Peter’s College will prepare students who are high school graduates (or transfer students from other colleges) for professional nursing (RNs) practice. The program is four years in length and students who successfully complete the program will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The program is supported by the 25 years of success of the College’s existing Nursing programs, which include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for career RNs and the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. The School of Nursing at Saint Peter's College has received provisional accreditation from the New Jersey Board of Nursing for this program.

A Career with Unlimited Potential
The growing demand for nursing care has resulted in a shortage of registered nurses. More new jobs will be created for RNs than for any other profession…and nurses make up the largest healthcare occupation, with more than 2.3 million jobs! Nurses have a wide range of career opportunities to choose from, including working in hospitals and community settings such as schools, clinics and home care agencies.
Nursing Program Core Curriculum
At New Jersey’s Jesuit College, our baccalaureate students will be exposed to a rich “core curriculum” which includes courses in the humanities, natural and social sciences, fine arts, philosophy, and theology. This provides a solid foundation and preparation for the major area of study, while giving students the professional values that are integral to the nursing profession.
The purposes of the Nursing Program are to equip the graduate with a breadth of knowledge, skills and values from both general and professional education, prepare the graduate for generalist professional practice in a variety of settings and provide a foundation for graduate education in nursing.
Our program is taught by expert faculty in the Jesuit tradition of “cura personalis,” personal caring.

*Theory/Clinical Course

Please note: 1 Lab or Clinical Credit = 3 Hours of Lab or Clinical
Clinical Experiences
Students begin their clinical experiences in their sophomore year with rotations in various nursing specialties (including Ob/Gyn, Mental Health, Pediatrics, Medical-Surgical Nursing and Community Health.) We use a wide variety of health care agencies for students’ clinical experiences.
In the freshmen year, the emphasis is on courses in the physical and behavioral sciences as well as in the humanities. In the sophomore year, students are introduced to the theoretical and clinical aspects of nursing. In the junior and senior years, students take courses which focus on the social sciences and as well as in the nursing major.
Admission Requirements
Every application is reviewed on an individual basis. Students are expected to have a solid preparation for college, with specific academic units. In addition to college admission requirements, applicants to the Nursing program should have satisfactorily completed one unit of biology and one unit of chemistry at the high school level. All students must provide a completed application, an official high school transcript, official SAT scores, and two letters of recommendation. Transfer students should have a minimum GPA of a C+ (2.3.) Once enrolled, Nursing students must maintain a GPA of C+ (2.3) or higher to remain in the program.
