SAINT PETER'S COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE OF ATHLETICS INTERESTS/BOOSTERS
You are "Representative of Athletics Interests" or Booster if you:
• Have ever been a member of an agency or organization promoting the Saint Peterís College (SPC) intercollegiate athletics program (e.g., the Kennedy Club, Diamond Club);
• Have ever made a financial contribution to SPC Intercollegiate Athletics, Peacock Club, or any athletics booster organization of SPC;
• Have ever assisted or have ever been asked (by an SPC staff member) to assist in recruiting prospects;
• Have ever assisted in providing any benefit to enrolled student-athletes or their families (e.g., helping to arrange summer and/or vacation employment); or
• Have been otherwise involved in promoting SPC intercollegiate athletics.
Once you have become a Booster, you will always retain that identity.
RECRUITING RULES EVERY BOOSTER NEEDS TO KNOW
• Only SPC staff members and College staff members may be involved in the recruiting process.
As a booster, you
• may only speak to a prospect via telephone if the prospect initiates the phone call and the call is not for recruiting purposes. All inquiries regarding the SPC intercollegiate athletics program must be referred to Saint Peterís Athletics;
• may observe a prospectís athletics contest on your own initiative, but you may not contact a prospect on such an occasion;
• may not contact a prospectís coach, principal or counselor in an attempt to evaluate a prospect.
• may not visit a prospectís educational institution to pick up film/videotape or transcripts pertaining to the evaluation of the prospectís academic eligibility or athletics ability.
• may not provide or arrange for any type of benefit for a prospect.
Unavoidable incidental contact made with a prospect by a booster is permitted, provided the contact:
• is not prearranged by the booster or athletics department staff member;
• does not take place on the grounds of the prospectís educational institution or at practice or competi tion sites involving the prospect or his/her team;
• is not made for the purpose of recruitment or the prospect;
• involves only normal/general conversation.
EXTRA BENEFITS
A booster may not provide or arrange for any type of extra benefit for a prospective or enrolled student-athlete (or their relatives, guardians or friends). There are many extra benefits that are expressly prohibited by the NCAA. These include (but are not limited to) any type of gift including clothing, merchandise, equipment, cash or like items; providing, signing, co-signing or arranging a loan; free or reduced-cost services, rentals or purchases of any type, including housing; and use of an automobile.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
There are many NCAA rules not mentioned here. Please do not do something to put Saint Peter's or a prospective or enrolled student-athlete at risk of a penalty or loss of eligibility. Call the SPC Athletics Department if you are still wondering if you should or shouldn't do something:
