peahens season comes to an end in loss to loyola

 

JERSEY CITY, NJ (October 29, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-15-2, 0-8-1 MAAC) had their 2006 season come to an end this afternoon in a 3-0 loss to the Loyola College Greyhounds (10-6-2, 8-1 MAAC). Loyola has won the MAAC Regular Season Championship and is heading to the MAAC Tournament. The Greyhounds scored two goals in the first half and one in the second half to take the victory. Saint Peter's goalie Jilian Fueshko made 13 saves in the match. The Peahens will head into the off-season with high expectations for 2007, losing just four players to graduation and returning a young nucleus of players.

JERSEY CITY, NJ (October 27, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-14-2, 0-7-1 MAAC) dropped a tough 1-0 decision this afternoon to the Rider University Broncs (6-8-2, 4-4 MAAC). The lone goal of the match was scored at 29:57 by Rider's Michelle Matricardi off a Shana Herman assist. Jilian Fuehsko made seven saves for the Peahens. Saint Peter's will wrap-up the season on Sunday afternoon as they host Loyola College.

JERSEY CITY, NJ (October 21, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-13-2) played to a 0-0 tie with the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders (1-13-1) this afternoon in non-conference action. The Peahens had 13 shots on goal and seven corner kicks, but could get the ball past the Highlander goalkeeper. The Saint Peter's defense limited NJIT to just three shots on goal for the entire game. Jenna Charnley led the Peahens with five shots on goal. Saint Peter's will return to action on Friday, October 27th as they host the Rider University Broncs for a 2pm kickoff at Jaroschak Field.

 

Peahens fall to jaspers

 

RIVERDALE, NY (October 19, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-13-1, 0-6-1 MAAC) fell to the Manhattan College Jaspers this afternoon, 2-1 in MAAC action. The Jaspers took a 2-0 lead in the second half, but the Peahens got on the board at the 89:03 mark. Jackie Chikosky put one in the net off a Sarah Meier assist. Jilian Fuehsko made six saves for the Peahens. Saint Peter's will play their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon as they host NJIT at 1pm.

 

Stags shutdown peahens in maac action

 

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 15, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-12-1, 0-5-1 MAAC) fell to the Fairfield University Stags (7-4-4, 3-0-2 MAAC) this afternoon, 3-0 in MAAC action. Jilian Fuehsko once again made double-digit saves, stopping 10 Stag shots. Saint Peter's will return to action Saturday, October 21 as they host NJIT in their final non-conference match of the season.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 13, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-11-1, 0-4-1 MAAC) played to a 0-0 tie with the Iona College Gaels (3-7-4, 1-1-2 MAAC) this afternoon. The Peahens got off six shots, but could not find the net. Iona sent 22 shots towards Saint Peter's goalie Jilian Fuehsko. Fueshko made 10 saves for the Peahens, including two in the first overtime. Saint Peter's will head to Fairfield for a MAAC match on Sunday.

JERSEY CITY, NJ (October 8, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-11, 0-4 MAAC) dropped a 4-0 decision to the Siena College Saints (6-4-2, 3-0-1) this afternoon in MAAC women's soccer action. The Saints scored two in the first and a pair in the second to win the game. Saint Peter's will return to acton on Friday, October 13th at they travel to face Iona College in MAAC action.

JERSEY CITY, NJ (October 6, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-10, 0-3 MAAC) suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Marist College Red Foxes (3-8, 1-2 MAAC) this afternoon. Marist scored a goal late in the first half and midway through the second half. Jilian Fueshko made seven saves for the Peahens. Saint Peter's will be back on the field on Sunday afternoon as they host the Siena College Saints in MAAC action.

BUFFALO, NY (October 1, 2006) - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-9, 0-2 MAAC) fell 3-0 to the Canisius College Golden Griffins (4-7-1, 1-0-1 MAAC) in upstate New York this afternoon. Jilian Fueshko made nine saves for the Peahens in the loss. Saint Peter's returns to action next friday as they host Marist in MAAC action.

NIAGARA UNIV, NY - The Saint Peter's College Peacocks (2-8, 0-1 MAAC) opened up their MAAC schedule this afternoon with a 5-0 loss at Niagara University (5-3, 1-0 MAAC). Saint Peter's could only muster two shots on goal, while Peahen goalie Jilian Fueshko made 11 saves. Saint Peter's wraps up their Western NY swing on Sunday with a match at Canisius.

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-7) won their second game of the young season this afternoon, defeating Wagner College (0-8) 1-0 in non-conference action. Kyle Marsh scored the Peahen goal, while Jilian Fueshko made 12 saves in the win.

 

The first 65 minutes of the contest went scoless this afternoon, but at the 65:26 mark, Marsh blasted a shot from 30 yards out that found the right side of the net to put the Peahens up 1-0. Over the final 34 minutes, Fuehsko made five saves to keep Saint Peter's ahead and earn the victory.

 

Saint Peter's will return to action on Friday afternoon as they open up MAAC play with a game at Niagara University in Upsate New York.

 

Saint Peter's falls at lafayette

 

EASTON, PA - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (1-7) fell to Lafayette College (3-3-1), 5-0 this evening. The Leopards scored four goals in the first half and one late the second half to earn the victory. Jilian Fueshko made seven saves for the Peahens, while Kyle Marsh recorded two shots. Saint Peter's will travel to face Wagner on Sunday afternoon.

 

Peahens shut down by seawolves

 

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (1-6) dropped a 5-0 non-conference decision at Stony Brook University this evening. Jilian Fueshko made eight saves in the contest, while Kyle Marsh had two shots on goal. The Peahens return to action on Friday evening as they travel to face Lafayette.

 

Pirates upend Peahens in NON-conference action

 

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (1-4) were shutout this afternoon, 5-0 by the Seton Hall University Pirates (4-4). The Peahens and Pirates played a scoreless first half, but Seton Hall exploded for five unanswered in the second half. The Peahens will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to face Stony Brook.

 

Peahens Grab First Win of the Season

 

DOVER, DE - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (1-4) picked up their first win of the season this afternoon, defeating Delaware State (2-5) 2-1. Krissy Kilbride and Sarah Meier provided the offense as Kilbride scored twice, both assisted by Meier. Jilian Fueshko made seven saves in the win.

 

The Peahens scored both their goals in a span of one minute in the first half. The first tally occured at 22:43 as Kilbride headed in the first goal of the season for the Peahens. The second goal came at 23:34 off the foot of Kilbride. Delaware State scored their goal at 77:37 to make the final 20 minutes interesting. Del State could only muster one more shot on goal that was stopped by Kovalcik in the final 20 minutes as the Peahens get the victory.

 

Saint Peter's will go right back at in on Sunday afternoon as they host Seton Hall at 1pm at Jaroschak Field.

 

The Mount Defeats Peahens in Non-conference match

 

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (0-4) fell to Mount St. Mary's University (1-3) this afternoon in non-conference action at Jaroschak Field. The Mount scored two first half goals and then held in the second half to take the victory.

 

The Mount scored their first goal of the match at the 5:14 mark on a goal by Meghan Haspert off a cross by Erin Canning. They then scored a second goal as Jenn Baker sent a free kick in the box that was redirected in by Colleen Regan at 23:26.

 

Jilian Fueshko made seven saves in the match. Kyle Marsh and Laura Gubitosa each recorded two shots.

 

The Peahens will be back in action on Friday as they travel to face Delaware State at 4pm.

 

PEahens fall to Monmouth

W. LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Saint Peter's College Peahens (0-3) did not record a shot this afternoon in a 6-0 loss at the Monmouth University Hawks. The Hawks scored twice in the first half and four more times in the second half to earn the victory. The Peahens will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host Mount St. Mary's.

Saint Peter's falls to quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT The Saint Peter’s College Peahens (0-2) dropped their second game to start the season this afternoon, falling 1-0 at the Quinnipiac University Bobcats (2-1). The Bobcats scored off a free kick at the 60:51 mark, scoring the only goal of the contest. The star of the game for Saint Peter's was goalie Andrea Kovalcik, who made nine saves. The Peahens could only record one shot, while Quinnipiac fired 17 times at the Peahen net. Saint Peter's will get back in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Monmouth University.

 

Peahens fall to marshall in season opener

JERSEY CITY, NJ The Saint Peter’s College Peahens (0-1) got their 2006 campaign underway this afternoon with a 6-0 loss to the Marshall University Thundering Herd (2-0).

 

The Herd got the scoring started on an unassisted goal by Ali Lizotte at the 7:40 mark. The two teams played an even match until the 33:42 mark when Marshall added their second tally, a goal by Erin Johnson off a Julia Axelsson assist. Axelsson then scored a goal of her own at the 35:06 mark to give the Herd a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Saint Peter’s did have four shots on goal in the first half, but could not find the back of the net. Marshall had three shots on goal in the opening frame.

 

Marshall opened up the scoring in the second half with Johnson's second goal at 58:44. Molly Snead and Axelsson finished up the scoring with goals at 63:39 and 70:44 respectively.

 

Saint Peter's recorded six shots on goal for the match, all stopped by the Herd goalies. The Peahens Andrea Kovalcik had one save, while Jilian Fueshko had four saves.

 

Saint Peter's will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they host the Pirates of Seton Hall at 4pm. BOXSCORE

PEahens look to make great strides in 2006

Saint Peter’s College women’s soccer heads into the 2006 campaign with high expectations. Second year head coach Shawn Tarquinio along with his staff and the rededication of the returning players look to emerge as a force to be reckoned with in the MAAC. The staff has also added some fresh faces who will make an immediate impact on the squad.

Leading the team in the back is junior captain Sarah Meier (Franklin Lakes, NJ). The 2005 Second Team All-MAAC selection and 2004
All-MAAC Rookie Team selection will be the backbone of the defense.

Joining Meier in the back is senior goalie Andrea Kovalcik (Clfiton, NJ) and junior Cortney Baxter (Glendale, AZ). Baxter was named to the 2004 All-MAAC Rookie Team and will serve as a team captain. Kovalcik played 13 games in net last season with a 3.61 GAA and a .682 save percentage.

Juniors Natalie Walker (Valencia, PA), Jillian Fueshko (Clifton, NJ) and Krissy Kilbride (Slate Hill, NY) will compete with each other for valuable playing time in the back.

Perennial starters, senior Jenna Charnley (Brampton, Ontario) and senior captain Jacqueline Chikosky (Bloomingdale, NJ) will be joined by freshmen Renee Morin (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Anabel Gonzalez (Kearny, NJ) in the midfield. Charnley was second on the team with seven points last season, scoring two goals and adding three assists.

Up front, the Peahens bring back their leading scorer from 2005, junior Kyle Marsh (Coram, NY). Marsh scored five goals and added an assist for 11 points in 2005. She will be joined by senior Laura Gubitosa (Ironia, NJ) and freshmen Bertha Munoz (Jersey City, NJ), Katelyn Matousek (Kavena, NY), and Danielle Pachuta (Perry, NY) to compete for starting spots.

The twins, freshmen, Courtney DeMedici (Point Pleasant, NJ) and Christine DeMedici (Point Pleasant, NJ) are both versatile, athletic players that will compete for playing time in the back and in the midfield.

Sophomore midfielder Pearl Chikosky (Bloomingdale, NJ), defender Elizabeth Mancebo (Newark, NJ), and forward Katrina Luckenbach (Sugar Land, TX) will all look to contribute to the success of Saint Peter’s in 2006.

The Peahens begin the 2006 campaign by hosting the Thundering Herd of Marshall on August 27th and the Seton Hall Pirates on August 29th. The Peahens will then hit the road to face Quinnipiac and Monmouth, before returning home to face Mount St. Mary’s. Saint Peter’s will then go on a six-game roadtrip that ends with a pair of MAAC games in Buffalo. Saint Peter’s will return home for two MAAC games, go on the road for three MAAC games and then finish the season with a home match against NJIT and two MAAC matches. The MAAC Tournament will take place the first weekend in November with the Championship Game on November 5th at Fairfield and broadcast live on ESPNU.
