Mission

Saint Peter’s College, founded in 1872, is a Jesuit, Catholic, co-educational, liberal arts college in an urban setting which seeks to develop the whole person in preparation for a lifetime of learning, leadership and service in a diverse and global society.  Committed to academic excellence and individual attention, Saint Peter's College provides education, informed by values, primarily in degree-granting programs in the arts, sciences, and business, to resident and commuting students from a variety of backgrounds.

Jesuit Education

Saint Peter’s is one of the 28 American Jesuit colleges and universities and the only Jesuit college in New Jersey. Jesuit education is committed to academic excellence and focuses on developing graduates to learn, to lead and to serve society, fulfilling the motto, men and women for others. Other Jesuit institutions include Boston College, College of the Holy Cross, Canisius College, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, LeMoyne College, Loyola of Maryland, University of Scranton, and Saint Joseph’s University.

Location

Saint Peter's College operates two campuses.  Its main facility is on 25 acres in the heart of Jersey City, the second largest city in New Jersey.  Located on the Hudson River, Jersey City is 12 minutes by train from the cultural and financial resources of New York City.  The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.  Courses are also offered at various corporate sites, at the Jersey City Waterfront and in South Amboy, N.J.

Academic Programs

Undergraduate Day: areas of Study within the College of Arts and Sciences / School of Business Administration include pre-professional joint programs in medicine and law; other academic programs include: African-American Studies, Army & Air Force ROTC, Cooperative Education, Executive Seminars, Harvard Model United Nations, Honors Program, New Jersey Marine Science Consortium, Service Learning, Study Abroad, Washington Center Program.

Undergradaute Evening: areas of Study within the School of Professional and Continuing Studies include Business and Liberal Arts.

Graduate Programs: areas of study include Business, Education and Nursing.

Facilities

Academic: The main campus offers five instructional buildings, including Gannon Hall, a state of the art science building, which recently underwent a $9 million renovation.

Computer: The College is a wireless campus. It offers students open-door access to more than 300 computers in 20 labs. In addition, each residential hall has a mini-lab open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All classrooms have internet access.

Library: The Edward and Theresa O’Toole Library contains more than 50,000 sq. ft. of space and houses more than 260,000 volumes on its four floors. The library at the branch campus at Englewood Cliffs offers an additional 30,000 volumes. The libraries subscribe to 750 periodicals and more than 10,000 full-text periodicals are available on or off-campus from the Library’s Web site, www.spc.edu/library, along with 1,200 links to academic and government internet resources.

Residential: Lounges, kitchenettes, computer labs and internet access are available for freshmen who reside on the east campus in Millennium, Whelan or Saint Peter Halls. Veterans’ Memorial Court, 140 Complex, Durant Hall and Murray Hall provide apartment-style living with private kitchens, bathroom and Internet access for upperclassmen.  Learn more about our residences.

Athletic: The Yanitelli Recreational Life Center is a 125,000 square foot, multi-million dollar facility offering five indoor tennis courts; three gymnasiums; a racquetball court; indoor golf practice facility; a twenty-five yard swimming pool with two diving boards; fitness center with strength and cardiovascular training, a new weight room; and a game room.

Accreditation

Saint Peter’s is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for its Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing. Saint Peter’s College is approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education for teacher-training.
