Jersey City, N.J. –Saint Peter’s College will offer a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree with a concentration in health care administration effective with the start of the winter 2009 trimester on November 30, 2009. The purpose of developing and implementing the M.B.A. in health care administration is to help prepare health care professionals for this evolving industry, which increasingly provides new and innovative management and leadership opportunities.

With more than 100 hospitals in New Jersey and close to 20 health care systems, these health care entities treat a combined 17 million patients annually; they also provide 125,000 jobs and $14 billion in annual revenues that drive both state and local economies. Pharmaceutical and health insurance companies, as well as non-profit and government organizations are also a significant source of employment opportunities in the state of New Jersey.

“The Saint Peter’s M.B.A. in health care administration is designed especially to bring senior health industry professionals into the classroom so they may better understand the delivery of health care services, as well as the role of the government, best practices and current trends in health care,” noted Dr. John J. Hampton, KPMG professor of business and director of graduate business programs at Saint Peter’s College. “The courses will also be useful to individuals in related careers, including insurance, professional services and non-profit organizations.”

Upon completing the health care administration program, graduates will have the knowledge they need to analyze issues and trends in the financing of the industry; propose strategies to improve administrative practice; explore human resource strategies that improve organizational effectiveness; examine relevant concepts and issues such as labor relations, Medicare/Medicaid fraud and the electronic medical record; examine legal and ethical issues; and synthesize knowledge from business and financial management in order to provide effective leadership.

The 48-credit program also places an emphasis on the concept of risk management, which is consistent with the overall theme of the graduate business programs at the College.

The M.B.A. program at Saint Peter’s College prepares candidates to manage people, assets, ideas and technology in a rapidly changing global environment. The winter trimester begins Monday, November 30, 2009. For more information, please contact Carmela Beutel, associate director of graduate business programs, at cbeutel@spc.edu or (201) 761-6472.
