STEP two: i-20 application
If you are accepted to the College as a full-time matriculated (degree-seeking) student the documents which you have submitted will be sent to Saint Peter’s International Student Coordinator for review:
- If you are overseas your I-20 will be mailed to you by air mail (which may take up to two weeks). You should contact your local American embassy for details on how to apply for an F-1 visa. An appointment is often necessary.
- If you are in the United States with F-1 status attending another institution you must see your current advisor to discuss a release of your SEVIS record. Once Saint Peter's College has obtained your SEVIS record and added your new program and financial information you will be issued an I-20 from Saint Peter's College.
- If you are currently in the United States on another type of nonimmigrant visa you will be contacted to discuss the possibility of changing status. (NOTE: Not all nonimmigrant visa holders are eligible to adjust their status to F-1 from within the United States).
FINANCIAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR AN I-20 FORM
In order to apply for an F-1 student visa you will need an I-20 form which is prepared by the College which you will attend. In order to be eligible for an I-20 a student must prove that he/she is capable of financially supporting their stay in the US. To do so, a student may show that he/she has the first year of support available AND that the source of this support will continue to be available for the remainder of their academic program.
The I-20 form will have a section where your expenses as estimated by the college are compared to your means of support for your first year of study. If applicable, your means of support on the I-20 may include a combination of any scholarhips from the college or elsewhere, funds from a sponsor, personal funds, or loans. Your support must at least equal your estimated expenses.
International students must submit the following materials in order to be eligible for an I-20 form:
- Bank statement(s) on official bank stationary – Submit a recent personal bank statement of each person who will contribute to your support. Statements must clearly show the amount that is in the account (with English translation if necessary).
- Affidavit(s) of Support - If you will receive money from a parent, relative or other sponsor each must provide proof of their intent to sponsor you. The affidavit may be a letter written by the sponsor, detailing the type of support to be provided annually. Or sponsors may use our Affidavit of Support form.
NOTE: All financial documents must be submitted in their original form. Faxes, photocopies, or electronic copies cannot be accepted.
ALL DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO:
