C&IS - Majors

The use of information and related information systems is an essential element of strategy in business organizations where information forms the basis for competing both nationally and internationally.  The result is the need for management to store, access and use information efficiently and intelligently in a cost-effective way.

This discipline studies the science of computers as a tool in its implementation to effectively and efficiently produce useful information to perform personal and organizational processes in the accomplishment of goals and tasks within society.

Computer and Information Science can be studied within four major options for a Degree of Bachelor of Science.

Computer Science Major/Computer Information Systems Option is designed for those who wish to become programmers or systems analysts.  Programming, programming systems and databases are studied.

Computer Science Major/Management Information Systems Option is designed for those interested in working in organizations as systems analysts, knowledgeable not only about computer technology, but also about its use to address organizational information needs.  This option prepares students to go on for an MBA degree.

Computer Science Major/Computer Science Option is designed for those who wish to study the theory and practice of computer science and also prepares students for graduate studies in computer science.

Computer Science Major/Teaching of Information Systems Option is designed for those who wish to teach information systems in elementary, middle, and secondary schools.  It is also designed for those who wish to teach information systems in corporate training departments or trade schools.  Application software , Internet teaching tools, Distance Learning,   and computer ethics are studied. 

Computer Science Major/E-Commerce Option Designed for those who wish to work in the field of E-Commerce technology. This option provides the foundation of the network and system architectures that support business to consumer portals and provides insight into the structure of the modern web enabled storefront and its integration with "back-office" business applications
