Second Research Camp
The March 28th research camp centered on methods—focusing on interviews and surveys. Youth constructed interview protocols for parents, peers, administrators, graduates and teachers and practiced their research skills by interviewing the day’s speaker, Josephine Hernandez, President of the Department of Education, and other guests at the camp that included members of each of their target demographic. Another youth research group from New York City, Students Supporting Action Awareness, presented the process and findings of their project. Finally, youth researchers and adult allies worked on revising the Graduation Requirements in Public Education Survey, a survey constructed based on their work from the first camp. The survey was subsequently posted on Surveymonkey for wide distribution. The results of this survey, as well as an analysis will be presented later this summer on this site. The day ended again with a spirited volleyball game, with student researchers and Saint Peter's College students participating.
