Saint Peter's College Libraries Entrance Policy
All Saint Peter’s College students, faculty, staff, alumni, and administrators must present a current SPC One Card in order to be admitted into the Libraries. If no card is presented, individuals seeking entrance will be directed to the One Card Office, in the Enrollment Center or call extension 6090, to obtain a card. Those admitted to the library whose password to electronic resources is invalid or otherwise inactive must contact ITS at extension 7800 to resolve the problem. The librarian on duty can only issue a guest password once per individual.
1. Students attempting to access from local high schools or St. Peter’s Prep need to have a current high school ID and correspondence from a teacher, administrator, or librarian on official school letterhead. This correspondence should be dated, with a corresponding assignment listed, and will be honored for at least two weeks from the date listed. The on-duty librarian should make a copy of the letter to be filed. If a librarian is not on staff, circulation staff should allow access and follow the same procedures. No walk-ins will be allowed. Local high schools and St. Peter’s Prep have the option of faxing a list of students who are requesting use of SPC Libraries prior to the beginning of a semester. There will be no borrowing privileges allowed, only computer access and in-house use of materials.
At the Englewood Cliffs Campus library, no student under the age of 18 unaccompanied by an adult will be admitted under any circumstance.
2. Unaccompanied college or university students from other institutions will not be allowed access to Saint Peter’s College Libraries due to security concerns. They should be referred to city or public college libraries in the area, where public access is allowed. Referrals should be to New Jersey City University, Hudson County Community College, or either the Jersey City or Englewood Cliffs Public Libraries
3. SPC students seeking admittance of students from other institutions should seek permission in advance from the director or the librarian on duty. The student must present a valid ID from his or her institution.
4. Alumni, recent graduates, and retired faculty members of Saint Peter’s College who do not have a currently issued SPC One Card need to obtain one. The Libraries retain the right to reject the entrance of any individual who does not have a current SPC One Card due to security concerns. Persons in this category have access to electronic resources and have borrowing privileges but not access to inter-library loans.
5. Current SPC students or alumni may bring in children, but must retain complete responsibility for their safety. The Libraries take no responsibility for any children. Parents or guardians must stay with a child at all times. A child left alone will be turned over to Campus Safety. The Libraries reserve the right to expel any parent and child if the child is disruptive. The Libraries are designed for adults and may have material not appropriate for children. It is the parents’ responsibility to monitor their children’s use of material.
6. Children of current faculty, staff or administration may obtain access to the Libraries under the following conditions. Arrangements must be made in advance with the director or librarian on duty. Children of staff under high school age cannot be admitted or left alone in the library without parental supervision. A student of high school age, with a current school photo ID, can be admitted unaccompanied. Children are allowed electronic resource and study privileges but not borrowing rights or interlibrary loan requests.
8. Visiting and local religious clergy, men or women, are allowed access to the Libraries with proper legitimate identification from their affiliated religious institutions. Although they will be allowed logon access to the Libraries database computers and in-house usage of books, no borrowing privileges will be extended.
Librarians reserve the right, at all times, to limit the access of individuals who do not comply with the policies listed above. If a potential patron objects to any of these policies, they can contact the Library Director at ext. 6455.
Circulation staff, including full time staff and work study students, will be advised of the above policy or any changes to the above policy as needed. This policy and updates will be posted on the Saint Peter’s College Libraries webpage.
Campus Security will be instrumental in keeping the above policies operational, in conjunction with conferring with the Director or the Reference Librarian on-duty, as needed.
