And now, for the real substance: the Performing Arts on the Saint Peter’s campus are truly in the midst of a Renaissance. This year alone, we have welcomed the Hudson Symphony Orchestra to the Roy Irving Theatre, our premier performance facility, as our newly-signed Symphony-in-Residence. Thanks to the Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation, and largely because of the help of Ms Carolyn Weaver, we acquired a grant to purchase four Ludwig timpani and a Zildjian gong to support this new partnership. With the support of President Eugene Cornacchia, we were also able to acquire an Adams Xylophone as well as a vast array of smaller percussion instruments to fill-in our percussive gaps.
We also welcome back SPC alum Mr. Ken Medina, who will serve as Director for the new SPC Drum Line and Pep Band. The Pep Band was made possible thanks to a generous grant from SPC alum Mr. Tom Farley, who provided funds to purchase a collection of Pearl marching percussion instruments. While this group is just experiencing its first glimpse into the fierce world of SPC Basketball, Mr. Medina is an old friend of the percussion/basketball relationship at Saint Peter’s, and I look forward to many years of growth and success as we support our Athletics programs. I should note, this new program would also not be possible without the gracious support of our VP of Student Affairs, Dr. Eileen Poiani, as well as Ms Jan Reimer, Director of Student Activities.
And our four original Performing Arts clubs remain strong and growing. For more information about our Chorale, Gospel Choir, Drama Society and Dance Team, please take a moment to check the links below. The dedicated students upon whose shoulders these groups are perched work strong and hard to maintain the excitement and artistic quality for which these groups have become known. There are many possibilities for you to be involved in the performing arts life of this community, and not all of them performance-based. For more information about joining any one of these organizations, including our new Pep Band, please contact me. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
And finally, for more information about our other programs, or to schedule the use of musical equipment or facilities, please see below.
