About CCS

Scientific knowledge was gathered for its own sake, and it had few practical applications. However, with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, this rapidly changed. Today, science has a profound effect on the way we live, largely through technology—the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. The Collins Chemistry Society was established to help students love the sciences mainly chemistry. Research in industrial chemistry has created a vast range of plastics and other synthetic materials, which have thousands of uses in the home and in industry. The goal of this society is to help members understand that science is never-ending, and technology is becoming more advanced now in 2008 then in 1945. Members will learn from top chemists, many members of the American Chemical Society which includes attending it’s annual meetings, they can present their research projects to a huge audience, and it will help them to better at there professional careers after Saint Peter’s College.

This is only a part of what the Collins Chemistry Society is about. The club was created in memory of Rev. Patrick Marley Collins, S.J., who for many years was connected with the Science Department of St. Peter’s College. Perhaps the most important thing to learn from this society is that we are all a family of scientists. This means that we not judged on what we do, but the way we carry ourselves in life. As scientists, we have to work together to solve the hardiest problems in the world to help people find cures and establish a better world for all. This is what Rev. Collins believed in and it’s what each member should carry with them wherever they may go after Saint Peter’s College.

Membership

Membership shall be open to all students of Saint Peter’s College. The organization shall have at least (1) moderator. It’s important that all members come to the meetings to keep good standing and assist in student activities or community service projects. Members shall be expected to attend as many meetings as possible. The secretary of CCS should keep track of members in attendance, and report copies to the Advisor and President of CCS.

Executive Board
