Class of 2011
One Team. One Dream.
ONE TEAM. ONE DREAM: A NEW BEGINNING
First and foremost, welcome back to another fantastic and productive year! I hope everyone has had an amazing summer and enjoyed those beautiful summer days. My name is Samantha L. Duke, I am the Vice President of the Class of 2011. I am also a member of many different organizations and clubs, both on and off campus, that I have taken a leadership role in. I am a second year Resident Assistant for West Campus, an EOF Peer Mentor and an active member of the Nursing Students Association, just to name a few. I am anxious to get things started and hear some of the great ideas you have for this upcoming semester. As representatives of the Class of 2011, we are ready and determined to make these ideas become reality.
This past summer, the Class of 2011 has been working very hard on brainstorming fun events for our entire student body to enjoy. Our diverse E-Board has combined forces to organize creative and new ways to increase student involvement here on campus. Our E-Board consists of our President, Katherine S. Arcos, Vice President, Samantha L.Duke, Treasurer, Clarence Stewart and Secretary, Daniela Villacres. Our team has a substantial amount of involvement in regards to campus activities for both commuters and residents. This past summer, Katherine Arcos served as an Orientation Leader for the incoming Class of 2013 and is the President of L.A..S.O. Clarence Stewart is a student/athlete for Track and Field, B.A.C Treasurer and Math Gem. Daniela Villacres was a 2008-2009 Resident Assistant for East Campus. Our Senators include Andrew Arthur, Kimberly Ferraro, Marisa Ferris and Joseph Skillender. We are privileged to be guided by our wonderful advisor and our number one resource, Ms. Gloria Rodriguez, EOF Advisor, who patiently leads us every step of the way to assure that we are always on the right track.
One of our major focuses this year is on Community Service. We often get caught up in our own little world and tend to forget to give back to our community. Can you think of a time where you needed someone, anyone, to talk to, to guide you or to just sit and listen to whatever you have to say without judgment? This year, the Class Officers and I have arranged for a trip to Good Home Counsel in Staten Island, NY. In Mid-October we plan on organizing a Spa Day for abandoned or battered women and children. This is an annual event that we have consistently acquired a great amount of support from our SPC family. We are also collaborating with the senior class of 2010 on putting together an extravagant – yet cost efficient- Junior/Senior Formal. These are a few things to look forward to this year, among many others .Our goal this year is to provide the Class of 2011 with a memorable college career, exciting events and a fun academic environment.
We are currently seeking to fill one of our Senatorial positions. If you believe that you are qualified to take on this responsibility and interested please contact me at sduke@spc.edu and I will provide you with additional information.
