LIBRARY Instruction
Reference Librarians regularly host instructional sessions in our 65-seat Library Instruction Room.
Instructional sessions usually meet in the library during your scheduled class time, although we can also make arrangements to come to you. Ideally we work directly with faculty to craft instruction that meets the students’ research needs. Most library instruction sessions cover:
• using the Library Catalog to search for books & locating those books within the Library
• using the Library Website to locate and access Ebooks and E-Journals
• searching various databases for scholarly and popular articles
• the evaluation of information resources (including websites) for research purposes
• tools and tips to foster the proper and thorough citation of sources
The Library Instruction Room is now equipped with 28 computers and a high-capacity printer, so students can get hands-on searching experience within the library instruction session.
The entire library staff is committed to fostering the information literacy of our student body by enabling them to access needed information effectively and evaluate information and its sources critically. Please help us to achieve these goals by scheduling a Library Instruction session for your class.
Please complete a LIBRARY INSTRUCTION REQUEST FORM to schedule an instructional session for your class. The more information we receive regarding the related coursework or research assignment, the easier it is for us to craft tailored, effective instruction. We ask for at least one week's notice, for scheduling and planning purposes. We encourage faculty members to attend Library Instruction sessions along with your class. We look forward to working with you to help our students achieve academic sucess.
If you have any questions or comments regarding Library Instruction please contact Assistant Librarian, Daisy DeCoster.
