Student Guidelines: Regents Mentoring program
BASIC STUDENT GUIDELINES
Please note that these are flexible guidelines; participation will take different forms for different mentees.
Required
- Try to meet in person once per semester (to be scheduled on your own, with your mentor). It is highly suggested the mentee make initial contact with the mentor.
- Stay in touch throughout the year via phone and/or email, as needed/desired.
- Always communicate and behave in a professional manner when dealing with the mentor; respond to all contact promptly.
- Please refrain from unsolicited requests for meetings and/or employment to mentor or mentor’s colleagues without mentor’s approval.
- Do not add mentor to any mass distribution lists or send jokes/email chains. Treat the mentor as you would treat a potential boss.
- Be sure to contact Jenny Campbell with any questions/concerns regarding your Mentor match – i.e. – difficulty getting in touch with mentor, etc.
Suggested
- Use your relationship with your mentor as an opportunity to network, gain career advice, and learn the field of business of your choice.
- Follow-up on all networking opportunities provided you by your mentor.
- Send ‘thank you’ notes to Mentors for recommendations.
Note: All of these suggestions are subject to the discretion of the mentor; he/she is under no obligation to assist students with internship opportunities, resume assistance or letters of recommendation.
