NEWARK, NJ - The Star-Ledger has named Saint Peter's baseball recruit Brian Schroeder the 2009 Star-Ledger HS Pitcher of the Year.
Schroeder has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Saint Peter's this fall. The righthander appeared in 20 games, leading Iselin Kennedy HS to their first state championship in school history. On the mound he was 12-0 with six saves and a 1.67 ERA, recording 119 strikeouts in 79-2/3 innings. In addition to his efforts on the mound he batted .565, stroked 11 doubles, nine home runs, and knocked in 39 runs, earning selection to the 2009 Star-Ledger All-State First Team as well.
Schroeder will join a pitching staff that already includes 2009 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Rookie Pitcher of the Year Dom Macaluso, 2009 NJCBA Rookie Team selectee Ethan Jackson, and fellow Peacocks recruit Michael Schaaf - who was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 18th round of the 2009 First-Year Major League Baseball Player Draft. Schroeder is also expected to compete for playing time in the infield, alongside 2009 NJCBA Rookie Player of the Year Justyn Carter, 2009 All-NJCBA and All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team selection Conor Mullee, and 2009 All-NJCBA Second Team selection Brian Koster.
