JERSEY CITY, NJ- The Saint Peter's College Peahen's soccer team (0-4) lost in overtime to the Bryant University Bulldogs this afternoon, 1-0. Alex Bengston of Bryant scored the game winning goal in the second minute of overtime.
In the first half, both teams had chances to score but couldn't net one. Each team had six shots in the half. The second half opened up with the Peahens controlling the tempo, outshooting the Bulldogs, 5-0 for the half. Saint Peter's also was awarded two corner kicks for the half and had a three to two advantage in the match. Bryant goalie, Lauren Viverito and Saint Peter's goalie, Caitlin Hoffer had seven and four saves respectively.
With the first overtime starting and Saint Peter's controlling the pace, Bryant took possession of the ball for the first minute and a half. The ball was kept in Hoffer's goalkeeping area, as Bengston took advantage of her opportunity, and buried home the winning goal.
Sophomore Chloe Zmolek had four shots for the game, one on goal while Jamie Lisanti had three shots, two on goal. Dana Grimes and Maria Tommasini were both forces on defense, limiting the Bulldogs to seven shots, five on goalie Hoffer.
The Peahens will play again on Sunday, September 12th when they travel to Dover, Delaware to take on the Delaware State Hornets.
