Claude Jones and the Peacocks Steal A Win From Eagles

Recap:
Jersey City, NJ (April 10, 2008) – The Saint Peter’s College Peacocks (13-14) defeated the Coppin State University Eagles (2-32) 6-4 in a seesaw battle this afternoon. Pedro Adorno (1-0) gets the victory after holding the Eagles hitless in the 7th and 8th inning with two punch outs. Kevin Kallert (1) notched his first save after closing the door on Coppin State in the ninth. Harry Williams (0-2) was handed the loss after allowing the winning run to steal home with two outs in the eighth.
 
Coppin State got on the board first with a RBI triple in the second inning by Roman Batista. Kevin Madison tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to right that knocked in Conor Mullee. The Eagles regained the lead 2-0 on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning. The Peacocks matched the Eagles once again scoring on a single by Sean McFadden. Saint Peter’s captured their first lead of the game when Joe Romano hit into a 6-3 put out with Mike McGuire scoring on the throw to first to put the Peacocks on top 3-2 after five. Coppin State added two runs in the top of the sixth on a single to right and a sacrifice to left making it 4-3 in favor of the Eagles. Saint Peter’s tied it at four in the bottom of the sixth on a Mike LaCava sac fly to center. McFadden saved a couple of runs in the seventh with a miraculous diving catch in centerfield. The Peacocks took a gamble with 2 outs in the eighth when Claude Jones stole home to give Saint Peter’s the 5-4 advantage. Next batter, McGuire, hit an RBI single to add another insurance run making it 6-4 Peacocks. Kallert stepped to the mound and shut the Eagles down with some help from centerfielder McFadden make two tremendous possible game saving catches.
 
Madision was 3-4 on the day with one RBI while McGuire hit 3-5 adding the insurance run in the eighth.
 
Saint Peter’s will return to action this Saturday, April 12th when they host the LeMoyne College Dolphins at 12pm in a doubleheader at Jaroschak Field.
