SAINT PETER'S COLLEGE SUPPORTS THE MIDDLE STATES PROCESS FOR ASSESSMENT
"Assessment OF STUDENT LEARNING may be characterized as the third element of a four-step, teaching-learning assessment cycle:
- Developing clearly articulated learning outcomes: the knowledge, skills, and competncis that students are expected to exhibit upon successful completion of a cours, academic program, co-curricular program, general education requirement, or other speciific set of experiences;
- Offering courses, programs, and experiences that provide the purposeful opportunities for students to achieve those learning outcomes;
- Assessing student achievement of those learning outcomes; and
- Using the results of those assessments to improve teaching and learning and inform planning and rsources allocation decisions."
"Assessment of INSTITUTIONAL EFFCTIVENESS may be characterized as the third element of a four-step-planning, assessment cycle:
- Defining clearly articulated institutional and unit-level goals;
- Implementing stratgies to achieve these goals;
- Assessing achievement of these goals; and
- Using the results of those assessments to improve programs and servics, and inform planning and resource allocation decisions."
