Assessment
Welcome to the Assessment Website for Saint Peter's College. The purpose of this site is to act as an electronic repository for information, resources and tools related to assessment at the college. This site defines assessment and its process at Saint Peter's. It also offers internal and external sources that can assist individuals, departments and institutional units at the college with their assessment dialogue.
Assessment is a comprehensive and systematic process of gathering and analyzing information through multiple measures and methods for the intentional purpose of incorporating the results into the improvement of services and programs that achieve our mission. Assessment occurs in two complementary activities -- assessment of student learning and of institutional effectiveness.
Assessment is consistent to the mission of the college in that Saint Peter’s College is able to reach its goal of cura personalis -- which is personal caring for students -- by attending to the outcomes of its liberal arts educational program. The college measures the extent to which students achieve the competencies that individual departments conclude are important in their disciplines.
Cura personalis extends through the institution by engaging college offices which serve our students in the assessment process. These offices promote a dialogue among students and professionals at all levels with regard to goal-setting, measurement and adaptive change.
Assessment at Saint Peter's College is perceived as integral to the rhetorical tradition of teaching and learning, testing ideas and the evolution of knowledge. Saint Peter's is fully committed to the dialogue of assessment as it renews our Jesuit past, informs our current mission and engages the college in its goal of service to others.
