Brief History of BAC
The Black Action Committee
In 1988- A Perspective[1]
The Black Action Committee was established in 1972 as one of the first student cultural organizations of Saint Peter’s College. The organization’s moderators have were Prof. Mitchell, Prof. Surrey, Dr. Perry, and currently Fadia Joseph, Director of Public Policy.
Throughout the years, our organization has served the college community by furthering the cause of student involvement in both the social and academic aspects of college life. The Black Action Committee stands on the philosophy that an education is the key to free ourselves of the constraints imposed on us by the myths and prejudices in the world that we live in….
As a result of sharing with the college community the experiences that these activities present, the BAC has gained wide acceptance throughout student activities. In 1986, members of the BAC constituted over ¼ of the voting membership of the Student Government. A year later, the Chairman of the BAC, a historic election, was President of the Student Senate—a proud moment in the history of our organization….
On this, the Black Action Committee stands firm on its belief that only through education and constant participation in the legislative processes will everyone in this land fulfill that dream of equality—a life with dignity, self-respect, and responsibility.
