Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable
Description: the 1898 edition of Brewer's famous dictionary of phrases and words that have history wrapped in their meanings.
Diccionario de la lengua española
Description: This is the older 2nd edition but still an excellent Spanish dictionary.
IATE-European Terminology Database 
Description: a 12-language dictionary from the European Commission's Translation Service. This Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish dictionary contains five million entries and includes technical terms,abbreviations and acronyms.
Learning English
Description: Practice your English with the BBC. The BBC in London presents exercises based on shopping, news, and other real-life situations to help you learn English.
Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Tenth Edition
Description: and the Merriam-Webster Thesaurus. Easiest to use of the online dictionaries, the Collegiate also provides the date a term was first used. The Collegiate and the American Heritage dictionaries concentrate on American usage.
ODLIS: Online Dictionary of Library and Information Science
Description: compiled by Joan M. Reitz of Western Connecticut State University, this very useful dictionary will help you find your way around library catalogs and printed bibliographies.
Omniglot: a guide to writing systems
Description: An introduction to over 200 writing systems: alphabetic, syllabic,logographic, and alternative, with history and examples of each system and links to fonts.

Description: Encyclopedia of Western Signs and Ideograms. Search over 2,500 symbols by graphic design or by word.
YourDictionary
Description: links to over 230 foreign language dictionaries and other word resources. The dictionaries include general dictionaries from major publishers (VOX for Spanish, Garazanti for Italian, Hachette for French, and the Sakhr for Arabic for example) and is especially good for finding technical dictionaries in foreign languages, such as The Beekeepers Italian-English dictionary. The site also has grammars in Chinese, French, Dutch, Cree, etc., commercially published or developed by university faculty around the world and links to Internet translation software.
