Shawn Tarquinio begins his second season heading up the Saint Peter’s College Peahens. In a little over a season, Tarquinio, along with his staff, has positioned the Peahens for a competitive run in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Proving himself a top-notch recruiter in his very first class, Tarquinio has brought to Saint Peter’s a stellar group of student-athletes for 2007. The incoming freshmen class, along with the rededication of the remaining student-athletes gives Saint Peter’s a wonderful opportunity to establish itself as a winning program.
Tarquino’s record at Saint Peter’s during his first year was 1-8-0 in the MAAC, 2-16-0 overall. Saint Peter’s lost to Canisius, 4-1 in the first round of the MAAC Tournament held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. From 1999-2004, Saint Peter’s won a total of three games in MAAC Conference play, and a total of six games overall. Considering this statistic, six victories in six seasons from 1999-2004, Tarquino’s two victories leading the squad in 2005 is a move in the positive direction.
Tarquinio’s student-athletes have been the cream of the crop at Saint Peter’s over the past year. Each semester Tarquinio has led the Peahens, the team has finished with the highest GPA of all athletic teams at Saint Peter’s College. During his tenure at Manhattan, the Lady Jaspers compiled a record of 11-13-3 in MAAC Conference games, placing as high as 5th place in 2002.
During Tarquinio’s tenure at Manhattan College, he also served as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach with Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s, ODP U-17 South squad in 2004. This team was a Rider Cup semifinalist. Losing to eventual National Champion, Maryland, 3-2 in the semifinals. Later the same year, the squad went to San Diego, CA for the prestigious Surf Cup and earned their first title as a team in five years, winning the U-19 Gold Group. That team placed three players on the 2004 U-17 Region 1 ODP squad.
