Frequently Asked Questions regarding the EOF Program

Q: What is the EOF Program?

A: The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program is a State funded program established to provide economically and academically challenged students an opportunity to pursue a higher education.

Q: How exactly does it help students?

A: The EOF program will provide students with the support services needed to become successful in college by providing tutoring, workshops, mentoring, academic counseling and guidance. In addition, the program will provide funds to be used towards the cost of tuition.

Q: Does this money have to be paid back? Does the student have to apply every year for the program?

A: Not at all. The EOF grant is given to students by the State. Also once a student has been accepted into the program and successfully complete the summer program prior to their freshman year, the student will be receiving the EOF grant each semester until the degree is achieved but not to exceed 12 semesters of EOF payment.

Q: How and when can I enroll?

A: A student interested in the EOF program must have completed an admissions application and accepted by SPC admissions. The student is to contact the EOF office to schedule an entrance interview with the EOF counselor.  The student will be pre qualified before the interview is confirmed. If the student meets the prequalifications, an interview will be scheduled. The student will be provided with a list of documents he/she must bring to the interview. The interview will be conducted by an EOF counselor who will assess if the student is a candidate for the program. The Financial Aid Office will determine whether or not the student is financially eligible to participate in the program.

Since there is limited space available for this program, interested students are advised to schedule an interview the instant they have submitted an application to SPC. Spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis.

Q: When does the summer program start? How long does it last?

A: The EOF program begins about the first week in July and continues for 5 weeks. Classes are held Monday through Thursday 9:00am until 4:00pm. The students will work intensively for this period of time in Reading, Math, English and a core required course, History. Students will be earning three (3) credits for the History class. Students will also attend orientation, tutoring, conduct presentations and register for the fall semester during this time.

Q: Can I dorm during the summer program? Do I have to pay for any portion of the program?

A: The State and SPC will cover the cost of the summer program. For this reason, there are limitations as to who can dorm during the summer program. Most students will commute.

Q: Can I skip the summer program and begin freshman year as an EOF member?

A: The summer program participation is MANDATORY.  If  a student wants to receive funding through the EOF program, the student must attend and successfully complete the summer program.

Q: How does EOF help my college experience?

A: EOF provides a head start on getting to know the campus, administration and faculty members. During the summer program students bond with other EOF and non EOF colleagues, thus, making the transition much smoother upon the arrival of the fall semester.

Q: If SPC does not accept me, can EOF accept me?

A: Unfortunately, not. Students must be accepted by SPC admissions.
