Softball Flashback

Welcome to the Intramural Sports Program! The Intramural Sports staff is here to serve you   and to do everything possible to make sure that your experience is a positive one. We offer a number of different team and individual activities for students, faculty, staff and administration to participate in. From sports such as flag football, basketball, and soccer to kickball, racquetball and individual sports such as 3-point contests and wiffleball homerun competitions, there is something for everyone! This participation allows for growth throughout the campus community as well as personal achievement.

The Intramural Department at Saint Peter's College is located in the basement of the
Recreational Life Center. The mission of the Intramural Department is to provide recreational programs and opportunities that service the entire Saint Peter's College community and enhance student, faculty, and staff knowledge and opportunities for participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, positive social relations, and leadership skills.

This Fall Semester, the Intramural Department will again start the year off with the popular Gym Class Sports Series. Despite being in college, many students have not forgotten their first taste of athletics, and this series of events on the lawn in front of Saint Peter’s Hall highlights this fact. Lawn volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, kickball, dodge ball, wiffleball, soccer, and cricket will all be played during the opening two weeks of the school year. On the Wednesday of the Club Fair, the campus will also be the sight of the first scavenger hunt of the year, The Great Peacock Hunt. Super student sleuths and faculty members will try to decipher riddles and collect items of all sorts in this event that is followed by a pizza dinner.

Following the Gym Class Series, the first intramural league of the year will get started, the intramrual softball league. These sports will be played Monday thru Thursday nights in the bubble. Sign-ups will be going on during the Gym Class Series, so don’t get shutout for this exhilarating early leagues. Immediatelu following the co-recreational softball league, the women's volleyball and men's floor hockey leagues will begin.  Keep your eyes open for sign-ups throughout the month of September.

At the conclusion of the September month, sign-ups for the popular Co-Recreational 6-on-6 Flag Football will be taking place. Taking the Intramural Sport Calendar from early October until Thanksgiving, flag football games will take place Monday thru Thursday, unless Sundays are deemed necessary for facility usage. Games take place indoors in the “Bubble,” transforming five tennis courts into an electric indoor football environment. Also at this time, SPC Select, the extramural flag football squad, will be holding tryouts for open spots on their team. More information will be posted as it comes available. Also during the month of October, the Intramural Department will feature some more popular programming, such as the Horseback Riding Trip, the Golf Outing, and the New York City Scavenger Hunt. The New York City Scavenger Hunt takes place in Greenwich Village and has been the host of many memories, including one of the teams finding Hollywood Film Star Al Pacino eating dinner and taking a picture with him.

November will sport the conclusion of the flag football regular season and the Bubble Bowl and Other Bowl playoffs. The Monday before Thanksgiving, the traditional Turkey Bowl will be played. The Turkey Bowl is a powder-puff flag football game, where the freshmen girls of Millennium Hall take on the freshmen females of Whelan Hall. All participants are welcomed to a turkey dinner at the conclusion of the contest. Intramural Bowling Night also takes place during the month of November. The SPC Select squad will kick off their season during the month as well, opening play with the State Tournament at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey, before traveling to the University of Maryland and Cornell University for co-recreational competition.

December will close out the Fall Semester Schedule. The culmination of Intramural programming for the first half of the year is the SPC All Nighter. The All Nighter is held in the Recreational Life Center gyms and features laser tag, different sports contests, food, and movies playing throughout the course of the night. Also planned for the latter part of the semester are a tennis tournament, a racquetball tournament, and a sports trivia contest.
