About The Center
Established in 1994 by former New Jersey Congressman Frank Guarini, the Guarini Center for Governmental Affairs aims to provide a non-partisan forum for discussion and analysis of key public policy issues and to encourage careers in public service among today’s students. The Guarini Center hosts lectures and programs throughout the academic year to raise awareness of local, domestic and international issues and challenges. The events sponsored by the Guarini Center are free of charge and open to members of the general public. A central part of the Guarini Center’s mission is to promote critical thinking and debate among the next generation of leaders.

Presidential Election Discussion
"The Election of 2008: What's Happening?" was presented by Dr. Gerald Pomper, professor at the Eagleton Institute of Political Science of Rutgers University. As Election Day approaches, Professor Pomper shared his unique perspective on the candidates following the last Presidential debate. The discussion took place on Thursday, October 30th.
Professor Pomper’s teaching and research focuses on campaigns, elections and political parties and addresses the changing political trends that will impact 2008 and future elections. He has been awarded the Career Achievement Award of the American Political Science Association section on political parties. Published in 2004, his study on Ordinary Heroes and American Democracy was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
