Catholic Community on Campus
"Saint Peter's College, inspired by its Jesuit, Catholic identity, commitment to individual attention and grounding in the liberal arts, educates a diverse community of learners in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs to excel intellectually, lead ethically,
serve compassionately, and promote justice in our ever-changing urban and global environment."
(University Mission Statement)
There are a number of opportunities for the Catholic community members on campus to live out and grow in their faith.
Liturgy
The campus community is invited to celebrate weekday and Sunday evening liturgies in the chapel on the first floor of Saint Peter Hall. Special liturgies like Mass of the Holy Spirit and Baccalaureate Mass are important in the Catholic university tradition and will be held in Saint Aedan's Church to accomodate more people. Those feeling called to liturgical ministry can contact Fr. Rocco Danzi, SJ, to find out about the many ways to get involved.
Reconciliation
The sacrament of reconciliation is available to members of the campus community before the Sunday 9 PM mass in Saint Peter Hall and by appointment with Fr. Rocco Danzi, SJ.
Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction is an opportunity available to people of all faith traditions who are looking for a companionship on their spiritual journeys. A spiritual director helps individuals looking to deepen their relationship with the Sacred through honest examination of one's encounters with God in both prayer and the world. Fr. Rocco can connect you with one of the many spiritual directors on campus.
Faith Formation
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process where those interested in becoming Catholic or finishing their sacramental formation can come to know God in deeper and more loving way. Classes are held weekly with the culmination at the Easter Vigil.
St. Aedan's
St. Aedan's: The Saint Peter's College Church is located on the east side of campus at the corner of Bergan Avenue and Mercer Street. The church not only serves the college, but also the Jersey City community. In addition to offering faith development and regular liturgical celebrations, St. Aedan's is also the site of college wide liturgies like Mass of the Holy Spirit and Baccalaureate Mass.
Jesuit Community
The 450-year-old tradition of Jesuit education is manifested through the College’s strong core curriculum, through cura personalis (personal care) for its students and each other, and the nurturing in young men and women of high intellect and spiritual freedom, the tools for a lifetime of discernment and service to their world as “men and women with and for others.”
