Loyola Volunteer Program
Download an application now.
The Loyola Volunteers are a group of students committed to community service, with a corresponding emphasis on reflection. By participating in service each Loyola Volunteer has an experience of direct involvement with individuals, groups, and communities who experience educational disadvantage, poverty, hunger, homelessness, and other forms of marginalization. Group reflection allows Loyola Volunteers to look at their personal experiences in a larger context and with a wider perspective. The group engages in reflection and social analysis to learn how they can work together to create a more just society.
Each volunteer agrees to:
serve at least two hours per week for a semester at a local nonprofit agency for a minimum of 30 hours a semester
attend the bi-weekly reflection meetings
Participate in one community service immersion experience per academic year
WHAT SPC STUDENTS SAY ABOUT THEIR SERVICE EXPERIENCES
“Service is providing help/aid for others without expecting anything in return. It gives us a sense of pride, makes us feel good about ourselves, and makes a difference in someone’s life.” ~Tracy Louisse Soriano
“Today I learned what it means to be men and women for others. I enjoyed looking at all of us working and knowing that we were doing something to help. My goal is to keep participating in service projects and just to do as much as I can to help those in need.”
~Stephanie Mayorga
“Take it upon yourself to help and do the right thing. You have to sacrifice the time to show that you care. Any type of kindness will change the world.” ~Marco Mercado
