Endowment
At Saint Peter’s, the endowment supports the life of the College by funding a significant portion of operating activities as well as specific areas, such as scholarships and professorships.
Saint Peter’s must continue to focus on growing its endowment to remain competitive with its peers, especially in the area of endowed scholarships. Currently, the College’s endowment ranks among the lowest of the Jesuit colleges and universities.
When donors create restricted endowed funds, this allows the College to honor the life and generosity of the benefactor in perpetuity; it also allows the gift to have an impact over a longer period of time than if it were spent all at once.
More than 100 endowed scholarships provide the financial makeup of Saint Peter’s endowment, which follows a formula where the interest earned from total endowment performance is dedicated as financial assistance to students, usually for tuition. Depending on donor preferences, most endowed scholarships are merit- and/or need-based.
Donors can also impact the life of a student by creating an annual scholarship. Although this does not grow the endowment, annual scholarships provide immediate and impactful financial assistance, dollar for dollar, and ultimately help advance The Saint Peter Fund, another critical Campaign priority.
